So I thought I (Neil) should post a little update as I’m having a very different week. I am currently in sunny Spain—yes, even in late October. I have been wanting to get away for the last month or so, and I saw an opening this week; thankfully, Janet and Caleb both gave me permission to go.
It’s been pretty busy ever since I returned home to be with my dad before his passing in mid-August. On top of the onehundredyearsproject stuff that we have been highlighting here, I have been doing a lot of sorting when it comes to Mum and all the arrangements that come after a family loss. It’s been a pleasure to be able to help, but now that things have calmed a little in that area, I was ready for some only-child time, and combining that with some sun seemed like the perfect combination.
It’s actually the first time I’ve taken a holiday like this fully on my own. I know I love time alone; of course, I always miss my family, but I wondered how I would find it, not having anyone to talk to at all—apart from my restaurant Spanish conversations 😂 It turns out it hasn’t been an issue at all. Other than calls home, ordering food and drink, and singing along to some tunes, I haven’t said a word. There are some of you reading this who hope I carry this habit forward when I return! 🤐
The main thing I have been doing is working on the book Janet has been telling you about. I’ve now finished the second draft, and I’m well into the third one now. I am really enjoying the process, but my head is struggling to keep up with all the different versions! I head home tomorrow, and it will be great to see Janet and Caleb, but I’m so thankful for these wonderful days.
Here’s a few photos—do try not to be jealous. 😂
